Extending PHP

The best PHP and DB Conference of 2006php/db|works 2006 Session Schedulephp/db|works 2006 Session Synopsis Index → Extending PHP

Speaker: Wez Furlong
Start time: Tuesday @ 13:30
Duration: 3 hours
Talk synopsis: PHP can do a lot, but it can't do it all. Sometimes you need access to a third-party library, or you need to speed up some code, or you just want to do something with the language that noone's thought of before. This in-depth tutorial will take you through a detailed look at the internals of PHP and introduce you to its rich, but daunting extension API.

To get the most out of this tutorial, attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptop. Proper build tools and environment will be made available through a local network.

NOTE: Due to unfortunate circumstances, the original presenter, Sara Golemon, will be unable to attend php|works/db|works this year, so this talk will be given by Wez Furlong.

Planning on attending?

Once we're done with the basics (lifecycles, memory management, variables, arrays), there's a whole range of more advanced topics we can tackle. But this workshop is for you, so tell me what you most want to focus on:

* Resources
* OOP (Overloading? Iterators? Exceptions? Interfaces?)
* linking (config.m4, config.w32)
* PDO
* Streams
* Unicode
* Something else?
