Test your driving ability in this exhilarating virtual racing shootout! Arbi's Gaming Challenge will take place on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM in the York Hall Room—join your fellow php/db|works attendees for an evening of fun and a shot at winning a brand new Xbox 360!
How It Works
Simply come down to the York Hall rooms on Wednesday at 7:00 PM for some gaming action (as well as some light refreshments). We'll place everyone's name in a hat and extract 24 contestants, who will go in a head-to-head race on an Xbox racing game (we won't disclose the name of the game until play time to give everyone a fair shot at the prize).
The players with the best four times will go on to the finals in a series of three head-to-head round, with the final winner taking home the Xbox 360.
- Arbi's Gaming Challenge will take place on Wednesday, September 13th, starting at 7:00PM in the York Halls
- Only conference badge holders and speakers are allowed to participate in the event
- Each attendee with badge will be given a ticket with a unique number; a corresponding ticket with the same number will be placed in a container
- At 7:15 PM, the host will start extracting ticket numbers by random selection and calling up participants
- Participants will have thirty seconds to claim their spot when called; if no claim is made within this limit, the ticket will be returned to the container and another one will be extracted. When a claim is made, the corresponding ticket is destroyed and the player will lose any further claim to the selection process
- Once four participants will have been chosen, a play-off round will begin. The contestants will be pitted against each other on an Xbox racing game chosen by the organizers and their time recorded
- A maximum racing time of five minutes will be allowed. Should a contestant not have completed the racing circuit by such time, he will be disqualified
- A total of six play-off rounds will be played in this manner, for a total of twenty-four players. Should less than twenty-four players be available for play, the remaining spots will be forfeited
- At the end of the play-off rounds, the players with the four lowest racing times will advance to the final rounds. Should two or more players show the same racing time in such a way that the total number of winners exceeds the available spots for the final rounds, a tie-breaking coin toss (or equivalent random selection mechanism) will be used to determine the winner
- In the final rounds, the player with the best time will be pitted in a head-to-head race against the player with the fourth-best time, and the player with the second-best time will be pitted in a head-to-head race against the player with the third-best time. The winners of both races will advance to the final race
- The winner (lowest time) of the final race will receive one Xbox 360 as the final prize
- Although the same racing circuit will be used for all the players in any given round, a different circuit will be used in every round
- It is each player's responsibility to ensure that their racing times are recorded correctly; the organizers reserve the right to refuse to correct a recording mistake that goes unreported by the time the next round starts
- The organizers will attempt to examine and resolve any dispute that should arise during the event fairly and amicably. Their decisions will be binding and unappealable
